CELEBRITY CRUISES CELEBRATES WORLD OCEANS DAY 2017 WITH WWF

To ensure our guests can continue to enjoy cruise holidays for years to come, we need look after our beautiful oceans. That’s why on 8 June, Celebrity Cruises is celebrating World Oceans Day 2017, and the second year of our partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
In January 2016, Celebrity Cruises as a member of the Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCL) family of brands, entered in to a five-year global partnership with WWF: “A commitment to oceans”.
The partnership focuses on strengthening our sustainable supply chain strategy and emission reductions through 2020.

Some of the environmental sustainability targets for 2020 include:
1. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35%
2. Responsibly source 90 percent of its wild-caught seafood by volume from MSC certified sustainable fisheries, fisheries in full assessment for MSC certification, comprehensive Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs), and/or sourced from International Seafood Sustainability Association (ISSA) member companies
3. By the end of 2020 – 1,000 of RCL's destination tours will come from operators certified as environmentally, socially and culturally sustainable practitioners
“Our mantra at Royal Caribbean is ‘Continuous Improvement,’ and this partnership with WWF represents a great opportunity to make a big step forward in meeting our special responsibility to protect the oceans,” said RCL Chairman and CEO Richard D. Fain. “It is also gratifying to see that our determination to make a meaningful difference is shared by our employees and our guests.
“This new partnership aligns all of us at RCL with WWF’s mission to conserve the world’s oceans.Together we are setting aggressive goals and together we will start implementing them right away.”
During the partnership, RCL Ltd will also contribute US$5 million to WWF to help sustain the health of beautiful oceans in places such as the Great Barrier Reef. You can help too, by donating to WWF today.
